Will Hess

Tax and Structuring Manager

Will began his career in Deloitte London’s International Tax Department in 2012, where he advised mainly on outbound taxation issues for UK listed clients, in particular the impact of the new BEPS actions. In 2017 he moved to the M&A Department where, as an Associate Director, he specialised in advising on large corporate transactions and reorganisations, providing structuring, diligence, and tax financial modelling advice.

In 2019 he moved into the fast-growing tax insurance industry, joining Liberty Global Transaction Solutions (GTS) where he helped set up GTS’s tax insurance business and then went on to lead GTS’s EMEA tax team with responsibility for EMEA based tax risks.

At GTS he helped to develop, structure and implement and number of complex bespoke tax insurance solutions for clients across all major European jurisdictions as well as the US and several APAC jurisdictions. These arose both in the M&A context but also as standalone solutions, allowing clients (including several financial sector clients) to manage risk and capital requirements. For particularly large risks, he also has extensive experience leading “towers” of insurers (often where the total exposure is in the hundreds of millions) to ensure that clients’ financial interests are fully protected.

Will graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Law in 2011. He is a Chartered Accountant with the ICAEW and is a Cert CII with the Chartered Insurance Institute, where he recently won the Kenneth Griffiths Prize in Claims Management. In 2022 he also received a LLM LPC from the University of Law with Distinction.
