Alex McDonald

Director

In 1995 Alex began his career at JP Morgan in London, working in the Interest Rate Derivative Group.

In 1997 he moved to Deutsche Bank’s Illiquid Credit Trading Desk in London, where the mandate included trading all structured and illiquid credit products.  During this period there was a focus on negative basis trading using both credit default swaps and mono line insurance policies to hedge the risk of real estate credit tenant leases; infrastructure debt (project finance, PPP, PFI) and securitized debt obligations. Alex led the external policy negotiations with third party insurers.

In 2003 While still at Deutsche Bank, he established and headed a principal investment business providing equity capital to renewable energy projects, a business where returns were driven by the economic and tax incentive regimes available from the participating European and North American Governments.

In 2007 Alex moved to AIG Financial Products as Managing Director in the Energy and Infrastructure principal investment team and built a portfolio of gas storage and pipeline investments and airports in addition to a substantial portfolio of European solar Photovoltaic projects and North American tax equity wind farm investments.

In 2012 Alex joined the AIG Portfolio Solutions Group in London, a team that developed and executed strategic transactions for the AIG Group, which generated significant liquidity and capital benefits for AIG that had material impact on AIG’s ETR.  The group delivered $970 million of post-tax economic value for AIG via a series complex transactions spanning multiple asset classes and group entities across varying tax, accounting, and regulatory jurisdictions.

In 2016 Alex was a co-founding director of Solertia Capital Advisors, a regulated advisory business with offices in London and New York, which specializes in innovative regulatory capital solutions and US and UK tax implications of financing and M&A activity.
